Network Engineering for Virtual Environments

Virtualization is driving a paradigm shift in the way networks are deployed.

Hypervisor platforms are rapidly converging server and network virtualization.

Virtualization is dramatically altering the way networks need to be designed for the data center. Network features and capabilities traditionally performed by physical network switches and routers are now being performed at the hypervisor level. Additionally, high bandwidth 10GbE links aggregating network services to the hypervisors are resulting in a correspondingly lower number of physical interfaces. Just as virtualization has helped consolidate servers, virtualization is driving the need for virtual switches and routers within the hypervisor.

For example, the current capabilities of distributed virtual switching through projects such as Open vSwitch are tremendous. However these new technologies may still be lacking some of the functionality and features that might be traditionally expected from physical switches. Carbon Mountain's software engineering team has decades of experience implementing Layer 2 through Layer 7 network capabilities for vendors such as Nortel, Alteon WebSystems and Aruba Networks. Our team can add, test and implement any network features that you might want to add to this new technology as well as help you integrate these new technologies into your environment - from network planning and design, through deployment.
