GNU Operating System
The GNU Operating System is a vast array of utilities, applications
and libraries that provide a complete operating system environment.
Carbon Mountain uses a small collection of utilities, applications and libraries from the GNU Operating System.
Due to space limitations in the initial ramdisk image used by KaOS™ and vKaOS™ platforms, the full GNU
Operating System is not used. KaOS™ is built using a minimalist approach, requiring only the bare essentials to
bring up a functional system to be present. Carbon Mountain selects the best and necessary components from the GNU
Operating System to include in its platforms. The GNU C Compiler (gcc) and associated development tools are core
components of the KaOS™ SDK, the GNU Libc (glibc) is a core component of KaOS™ and vKaOS™.
Components from the GNU Operating System are used in KaOS™, in vKaOS™ and the KaOS™ SDK.
