How does KaOS differ from other Hypervisors?
KaOS uses an image based system, enabling solutions to be fully tested before
deployment. KaOS is lightweight and designed for virtualized deployments...
KaOS is designed from the ground up to always be available. The boot image design that
is integrated into the kernel means that system administrators no longer need to worry about
having to find the console cable or pay for remote hands at distant data centers.

Small Footprint
KaOS has the smallest footprint of all the hypervisor platforms available today. KaOS is a fraction of the size of VMware ESXi 4.0. It is
the only hypervisor platform available today that runs entirely in-memory. Having a smaller footprint enables KaOS to efficiently run
faster from within system memory instead of from a slower local storage medium. It is possible to install and run KaOS effectively from
USB flash drives. The small size makes it fast and easy to bring up new hypervisors or nodes within a Cloud environment.
Instant-On Hypervisor
KaOS is the only hypervisor platform that provides a zero-installation, instantly on platform. Once the KaOS-enabled Linux kernel has booted,
the hypervisor platform is up and ready for configuration. There is no lengthy installation process, its truely plug and play.
Management CLI
It is a well known fact that most system administrators can type faster than they can point and click and thus prefer cli's. Large desktop environments and high speed network connections
are not always available when emergency situations strike. The AppQueue CLI used to configure and manage the KaOS hypervisor provides a
quick and straightforward interface. The menu-driven CLI provides easy navigation and is responsive even over low-bandwidth cellular links.
The AppQueue CLI enables the skilled administrator to isolate problems quickly and resolve them, perhaps even before an admin using a
competing solution can even find the right hypervisor.
Zero Installation Virtual Servers
KaOS is the only platform that all but eliminates the need to install, configure and image virtual server environments. The vKaOS and App Module
system in KaOS enables the system administrator to simply select the Applications they need. Once selected, the administrator simply
provides minimal configuration information through the CLI and the KaOS hypervisor will then automatically generate the virtual server
image and enable rapid deployment.
Thanks to the AppQueue module framework the administrator can utilize the best Open Source solutions available without needing in-depth
knowledge of configuration syntax or runtime parameters. Instead, the administrator simply needs basic information, for example, with a web module, the port number, site name and location of the website content.
Advanced Virtual Networking
The KaOS hypervisor has advanced virtual networking capabilities. KaOS supports public and private VLANs which have their own independent virtual
switch, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, per VLAN virtual IP address management, virtual port and virtual MAC automated provisioning / management. Advanced
firewall capabilities such as Zones, Application Profiles and automated Network / Port translation make KaOS one of the most advanced networked
hypervisor platforms available today.
Automated Firewall
The AppQueue Module Framework enables KaOS to automatically open the necessary ports on the hypervisors internal firewall for new applications, while the automated
IP address management enables the appropriate network paths through the firewall. Human error is minimized by allowing the hypervisor to only open the ports necessary for the configuration that it and the virtual servers are running while the advanced firewall
framework allows the knowledgable security professional to augment and override the hypervisor firewall setting if necessary. As such, KaOS provides a complete end to end
solution, with the visibility into the applications that enables Carbon Mountain to deliver next-generation innovative features in KaOS.
